Ok this process needs a bit more preparation but the results are interesting!
- Try this with a test print as i have so you can see the tone you want before trying this with any finals
- Step One - Mix 8ml of Household Ammonium to 250ml of water - using a print that is a few days old (aged) wet the print with water before placing the print in the solution
- Step Two - once the print has changed colour (this can vary from pale yellows to violets depending on how old the print is!) Wash in water for 10mins
- Step Three - Once washed place the print in a strong solution of wine tannin 5-6 teaspoons in a pint of hot water for 5- 10 mins then wash for 5 mins At this point you will have a brown print you can stop there if you like...
- Step Four - mix 4-5 teaspoons of baking soda in a pint of hot water immerse the print and watch as the print takes on deep red- brown tones (about 15-10 mins)
- Step Five - once happy with the colour wash for 15- 20mins to make sure all excess chemicals have been removed
